Donor Criteria

RTI Biologics, Inc., (RTI) offers a wide range of safe allograft implants that improve patients’ lives. RTI adheres to strict screening criteria, validated processes and sterilization through the BioCleanse® Tissue Sterilization Process to ensure the quality of these allografts.

Tissue is accepted for processing after family consent and after conducting a thorough medical/social history – an interview with the donor’s family and evaluation of the donor’s medical records. Donors are screened for infections, malignancies, autoimmune and certain neurologic disorders, drug abuse and other high risk behaviors. Once tissue arrives at RTI to be prepared for transplantation, it is thoroughly inspected, and blood from each donor is screened for diseases such as HIV, syphilis and hepatitis using the most sensitive tests available. RTI’s medical director – a licensed physician with a background in infectious diseases, pathology, clinical microbiology, general medicine and epidemiology – must approve each donor record before tissue is released for the process of shaping and sterilization.
